First album made with a big-time producer and semi-big budget. Tony Mcanany did that "Chant" record that sold 13 mil, and "Illumination" and other cool stuff. Originally conceived as a "chamber jazz" (I hate that term) record featuring just Joshua, Diana and Christian, it quickly became something else entirely. The core players are there in various combinations, but Tony and Joel Moss (bril!) tinkered with things a bit and brought in some guest players like Nona Hendrix, Cyro Baptista and CELLO and we expanded some of the arrangements.Not suprisingly, the two pieces I'm most happy with and reflect my current musical headspace are "Island Palace" and "Bibo No Aozora", the ones with a larger sonic landscape. The Magnus-organ-like sound on "Island Palace" is a sampled backwards piano, and the bass sound is muted low piano strings. The Vernon Reid-esque guitar sound on "Bibo" is a stock TS-10 patch. Cyro was playing those plastic hoses that you twirl over your head. Diana was triggering the ambient loop and playing those metallic, windchime sounds. Tony was smoking a Cuban cigar throughout. We ordered from Mangia Beve (italian) and Sarashina (japanese) and drank Rhumba Frappuccinos. No drugs were consumed at any time. THE END (FOR NOW).
