Tomas Castro

Tomas Castro's musical roots run deep to his family history. Both of his parents were professional musicians in their native Chile. His grandfather was the renowned Chilean folksinger and composer, Guillermo Soudy, (Los Quatro Huasos), whose compositions are still performed thirty years after his death.

Fleeing from political oppression, Tomas and his family emigrated to Stockholm, Sweden in 1975 moving again in 1980 to Mozambique. In South Africa, Tomas became immersed in a musical melting pot with influences from Brazil, Cuba, Europe and Africa, and he began to develop an appreciation and affinity for a truly global perspective on music and rhythm.

Tomas returned to Stockholm to attend a special music high school for gifted artists. Upon graduation he left for London where he joined the Robin Jones King Salsa Band as lead singer. It was here that Tomas's past and present converged and began to manifest through his own compositions.

Back in Stockholm, Tomas concentrated on his writing and formed the Tomas Castro Band in 1992. He spent the next four years writing songs and performing them with his six-member band throughout Scandinavia .

The result of this journey is the maturation of a consummate global artist. With original, yet familiarly accessible songs in Spanish and English and a powerfully honest singing style, Tomas's is a truly international voice.
