Current Events

First of all, even though I live in upstate NY, the dialectical epicenter of unpronounced consonants, I think anyone speaking out in public with regard to the on-going investigation and inevitable circus trial of George Zimmerman, must be required to participate in remedial speech therapy and subsequently be publicly reprimanded for eliminating either the ‘t’ or the ‘n’ in the name, M-A-R-T-I-N.

This entire week was not unlike an SNL episode; everything seemed to have a satirically nutty humor about it, but in retrospect…not so funny.

• Rick Santorum faced his inevitable defeat and pulled out of the nomination race.  God, who had personally told him to run, obviously changed his mind.  He will be supporting Mitt Romney for president because really, if you put all of the negative things he said about the Mitt-ster together, well…uh…er…shucks.

• Mitt gave a rousing, “I support everyone’s right to shoot shit” speech at the NRA convention where gun-toters of every ilk spit, screamed and waved weaponry over their heads in voracious agreement.  (I wonder what the security protocol is at a gathering like that).  Let me just say for the record, I have never fired a gun.  It’s likely that I would have an instant change of heart if some lunatic like say, Robert Blake, was forcing his way into my house to do my family harm, but sane, protective regulation of the misuse of firearms is the real ‘inalienable right’ of society.  The current, tragic poster boy, Trayvon Martin, (pronunciation pending), is dead because someone who had no reason to own or carry a gun…had one in is cold, live hands.

• “The Three Stooges” movie opened this week and North Korea attempted to launch a long-range rocket.  Sorry, I get these two things mixed up and I really feel stoopid!

• Secret Service men are enmeshed in a prostitution scandal.  Shouldn’t this be…secret?

• Although there were no atrocities reported this week, the Afghan War is not over.

• The economy…still not good.

• Baseball season opened, Brad and Angelina are engaged, the Octomom is broke, something about Snooky and something else about Jennifer Aniston and aliens may be living in Mitt Romney’s hair.  I don’t really care about any of these things, but I learned about them while checking out a few things in the 10-items-or-less lane at the Pricechopper.
