M-O-N-E-Y

I wouldn’t be so callous as to opine, at this time of year anyway, on God’s creation of man versus the more science-based thesis to the contrary, but no one can argue that the other God, the more relevant and all-powerful one, Money, was wholly birthed from man’s highly complex and manipulative imagination.  Can I get an AMEN?  And, as the more traditional religions continue to wage a millennia-old crusade for the souls of mankind, the various fiscally-blessed sects of the Earth’s monetary superstructure fight a never-ending battle for truth, justice and the American way.  Actually, that’s Superman, but the battle part still applies.  The absurd nature of this struggle is that it has become so piously contentious that, if there exists a voice of reason, it has been drowned out by nonsensical blather.  The chasm between the ultra-conservative and the tie-died liberal is not fordable and the growing hatred for those on opposite sides of a nearly uninhabited middle ground has dashed all hope for an intelligently planned future.

Though it would not be my choice in my version of Utopia, we have settled on a currency-based economy as the engine to run modern society.  That the value of the various national currencies can be and is manipulated on a minute-by-minute basis should be evidence enough of just how bad a choice we’ve made.  That we hear daily arguments against things beneficial to us all, (clean air, clean water, education, health care, safe and clean power, fast and environmentally responsible transportation, etc., etc., etc.), because of a perceived untenable price tag, it makes me wonder if those naysayers ever stop to realize that they are living on the planet they would chose to make less livable.  Money cannot be the start and end of every conversation or there simply is no conversation.  The things that are universally beneficial to all life on Earth must not be bartered like a rusted out Buick.

If it were up to me, I would round up every policy maker that objects to any of the above, put them on a bus driven by Grover Norquist and make them drive off of the fiscal cliff.  Just sayin’.
