If only it were about a bold and swarthy explorer like Magellan or Vespucci rather than one of the most blatantly stupid ideas of all time. So, a bunch of overpaid and generally unqualified representatives of, well, as it turns out…hardly anybody, with a complete lack of understanding, (or possibly of intelligence to understand), their own job descriptions, find themselves at an impasse, (not the classical kind where opposing and equally fought for ideas go head-to-head…rather the slack-jawed, drooling kind where two morons stare at each other, or off into space, waiting for the other to say anything so they can respond with, “I know you are, but what am I?”), and all that they can cumulatively come up with is to set a future date when something really, really bad will happen if they don’t figure something out by then. Of course, the really, really bad thing won’t actually happen to them, so they really, really don’t give a rat’s ass one way or the other. Oh, and let’s call it ‘Sequester’, because it’s a word that doesn’t apply to the problem at hand so it will seem like something important, or, at the very least, like code…and isn’t that cool?
Most jobs, (not tenured teachers, of course), have consequences for poor and certainly for bad performance. Reprimands, demotions or dismissal have always been a part of the work place and even more so in these times of high unemployment. Yet, we not only tolerate, but we continue to reward, (or at least giggle along with), our political representatives who flaunt their most unacceptable work ethic in a most public manner. It is preposterous that something of import cannot be accomplished in Congress every single day. The list of things is so long that one-a-day is not nearly a fast enough pace and yet, day after day of inaction is leaving us all more at sea than any sextant-twirling sea quester of yore. Perhaps the solution is as simple as having a coif-challenged idiot like the Donald fire all of their asses, but replacing John Boehner with Gary Busey…not necessarily worse…but…
