Hey…NSA! It’s Me…Joelie

I thought, that if it ever became official that the government was spying on everything I did and said, that I would be paranoid, at the very least, and outraged, of the anarchic-retaliatory variety.  Fundamentally, it is pretty creepy.  The “machine”, (used primarily for good on Person of Interest), is watching our every move.  TSA is shamelessly scanning our underwear.  Even Jeff Bezos knows what we buy, in what color and size and what the next thing is that we really, really need, (I would never have known that I needed that U of M grill cover had Jeff not sent me the irresistible photo).  I have a friend who has been wearing an aluminum foil pirate hat for years to prevent the government from randomly scanning his thoughts.  That’s ridiculous, of course. In my research, only a xanthium alloy can deter that process.  Truthfully, I kind of like the attention.  I have never shied from a potential audience and although I wouldn’t go so far as to imagine that everything I say or do is entertaining or informative, I often find myself consciously performing for my unseen observer(s). I sing, I mime and I act out in sometimes inappropriate ways, (not zoo-monkey-throwing-his-shit inappropriate, but…).  I talk to myself and my computer and, of course, the TV.  At least, as of this posting, the ‘watchers’ have been peeping from a non-confrontational, clandestine handbook and except for unconfirmed signs, (the sudden appearance of rashes, needle tracks, anal irritation), of probing during my occasional unscheduled naps, surveillance has not been too unpleasant.  I would caution against the use of certain ‘trigger terminology’, (I can’t be explicit here for obvious reasons), that could result in long-term incarceration in a place like Guantanamo.  Other than that, I can’t really see a down side to any of this and maybe, just maybe, a few Amazon-style suggestions from Big Brother could be of some universal benefit…or not.
