Playing Bridge

It’s hard to keep up with scandalous behavior these days.  I’m still reeling from that whole Anthony Weiner thing, (the actual ‘thing’, not all the hoo-ha that surrounded it); I can’t get a handle on what’s what with ObamaCare; I don’t know if I’m alarmed that Bob Gates’ memoire unmasks the politicization of, well, politicians; it probably makes no difference what information the NSA, (and Target), does or doesn’t collect; I am concerned, (I don’t know why), about the Velveta® shortage, Dennis Rodman and the shut down of the GW Bridge…yeah, the bridge deal.  Though heads were rolling and the oh so fat and contrite Mr. Christie mea culpa-ed his way through the media hysteria, not one member of that frenzied, journalistic mob asked the right question.  So, here it is:

“Governor, when you noticed that the George Washington Bridge was closed down and it stayed closed down for four days, what the fuck did you think was happening, you lying, bullying, fat sack of shit!?”

I know I tend to revert to my more basal instincts when faced with such a load of crap as Christie’s explanation of the incident, (feel free to edit, paraphrase or rewrite if you have the opportunity to get this in front of the fat man), but really?  A literal lifeline between NJ and NY was closed on a political whim, endangering lives and public safety and the guy in charge didn’t know and didn’t notice for four days…right, (I curled my lip as I typed ‘right’), and the first he knew about it was when his press people sent a text to his iPad when he was on the tread mill, (like anybody’s gonna believe he was on a tread mill).

I love Aaron Sorkin’s writing, but his most insidious five-word phrase, (along with Jack’s Snidely Whiplash delivery), has somehow become the silent mantra of politicians once caught with their hands in the cookie jar, (or other inappropriate places)…”You can’t handle the truth!”
