Stand Your Ground

Although Florida seems to be the ugly stepchild in issue after issue, from elder abuse to voting rights to education, (or lack thereof), the high-profile trials playing out under the ‘Stand Your Ground’, (or the “who did George Zimmerman shoot now?”), law, should, but simply don’t, result in outrage resulting in change.  Certainly, California, (more precisely, LA), set the bar pretty high with the OJ nonsense, (though both the ‘standing’ and the ‘ground’ were not quite the same in that instance), but, if the perception of a threat, (a valid basis for a Florida legal defense), caused by someone blasting a car radio, or texting during the previews or crinkling their Skittles® bag too loudly can sway a jury to vote “Not Guilty”, at best, or be indecisive enough to cause a mistrial, Stand Your Ground will have to be retagged, Population Reduction, because a lot more “threatened” Floridians are going to shoot first and tremble later.
