Not one of the more than two dozen Democratic senators, who held an all-night vigil this week to bring awareness to the catastrophic possibilities of global warming, mentioned the obvious parallel between their presentation and the horrific end to planet Krypton. The Kyrptonians, light years ahead of human scientific and intellectual development, first created the eventual cause of their demise and then ignored the warning signs of its inevitability until even their most brilliant scientists could not save them. It’s certainly possible that we Earthlings have also passed the point of no return, but, unlike Jor-el and his planet-mates, we are embroiled in so many other pressing issues: holy and territorial wars; a preoccupation with economic mumbo jumbo, (the Republican pre-response, [it was actually given prior to hearing any of the scientific evidence], to the Dem’s all-nighter was, “In light of today’s fragile economy, we can ill-afford any legislation that would increase the cost of doing business, even if that business is somehow responsible for Climate Change.”); anxiety over the Final Four selection; boxers or briefs; and the whole gluten thing, that the last two people left before Earth is totally unfit for human habitation, will likely still be at odds about what to do.
I am so exhausted by trying to wrap my head around the mindset of the other, non-liberal half of the polls that don’t believe or don’t care or can’t read or understand the data well enough to…awwww, fuck it! Next species!
