We’re getting close to crowning a new NCAA champ. Tiger’s going to miss The Masters. They still can’t find that fucking plane. It’s now OK to buy all the government you can afford. Letterman’s quitting. Poor Gwyneth. Cabrera signs for a $pazzillion, (about the same amount required to gainfully employ all of the other people living in Detroit). We’re still hemorrhaging military money in Afghanistan and Iraq for…well, nobody really knows what for. The US power grid is on the verge of collapse. We’re running out of water. Roads and bridges from coast to coast are crumbling. So, that’s how you married my mother and…what…Will Gardner’s dead? And…oh…climate change is way worse than any previously posted pessimistic outlook.
I’ve never exactly been a prioritized list guy. I’m more of a randomly-arrange-and-problem-solve-by-path-of-least-resistance type, you know, tackling some of the easily accomplished tasks and putting off the mess in the basement until I just can’t take it any more. However, none of my personal todos, (except where I may be communally culpable), are of the endangering-all-life-on-Earth variety. But now, Greenland is melting! Polar ice is disintegrating at an alarming rate and the resultant rise in sea level will not be pleasant for those of us who prefer living on dry land. We’ve been told, for fifty years or so, to reduce harmful emissions that greatly contribute to the unnatural climate change of our planet and yet those emissions have continued to increase year after year. What is it going to take for us all to realize that the shit in the basement cannot be put off any longer?
Other than a few yummy snacks, (which I hope are being made by responsible, 100% non-polluters), that would be hard to give up, is there really anything:
that can’t wait until we check off the “Or Everyone Dies” item from the list?
