You’re Out of Order!

I’m imagining Kim Davis, the self-righteous clerk of Rowan County, Kentucky, languishing away in a urine-spattered, over-crowded cell with her bunkmate, Androgynous Andi, praying, (hopefully on her knees in the aforementioned spatterings), to her uncompassionate god.  I’m also hoping that she decides to take this thing as far as she can so that she and Andi get significant, quality time together.

This latest waste of headline space, blurring what should be the clearly defined delineation between church and state, could have been handled more efficiently had Ms. Davis simply been fired for refusing to perform the duties required by her publicly-funded job.  But nooooo!  In today’s polar-opposite American landscape, every whacko gets their fifteen minutes.  God has apparently sent legions of grammatically-challenged sign wavers to march in support of His anti-gay crusade, while rising to the defense of Kim’s decision to force her fundamentalist beliefs on the people she was hired to serve, one of the national “poster boys of whacko”, Tom…I mean Ted Cruz, weighed in with,

“Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America.”

“I stand with Kim Davis. Unequivocally.  I stand with every American that the Obama Administration is trying to force to choose between honoring his or her faith or complying with a lawless court opinion.”

In formal debate, (I have argued a lot but never participated in an organized face-off), if I’m not mistaken, the process is to present your point of view with enough real or pulled-out-of-your-ass substantive support while simultaneously attacking the presentation of your opponent.  I’m pretty sure that pandering to the fears and prejudices of the spectators by using blatantly baseless blather, (or, once again, anecdotally advantageous alliteration), is grounds for disqualification.

I support Ted Cruz’s constitutional right to say any stupid thing he dares, as I do my own when I say, “Shut the fuck up you mindless moron!”  Kim Davis, however, is a terrible county employee who deserves to be fired.  The irony of all this, of course, will be if she and Andi seek each other’s comfort during their incarceration and someday find themselves in the Rowan County clerk’s office, waiting in a long, long line of similarly in love human beings.
