If this was a TV show, whomever was having this dream, (you know, the one where Trump is the frontrunner for the Republicans and Bernie Sanders is kicking Hillary’s ass, which may not even matter if the FBI throws her in the slammer, and Michigan is poisoning everybody in Flint, and god, (whatever that means), is more important than…well, anything), would suddenly sit bolt upright in bed, beads of sweat dripping from his or her hairline, shake his or herself fully awake and emit an audible sigh of relief, thanking ‘whatever that means’ it was all in their head and probably caused by a bedtime snack of reheated three-day-old beef and broccoli. In literature and cinema and, (I just realized), in dreams, emotional attachment to characters and their situations requires an active and preferably subliminal suspension of disbelief. If you do not have the capacity to go there, fiction, non-fiction, TV, (reality and the other kind), fast food, modern art, fashion, Chia Pets®, war, peace, politics and certainly religion make no sense whatsoever.

This latest Presidential campaign seems to have been waging forever. It has propagated no insightful policy while sucking the life out of our desperate need to pay heed to the real pressing issues of our lives. The chest-thumping, finger-pointing, name-calling, kowtowing imbeciles courting the narrow-minded white bread causcusers of Iowa are an embarrassment to themselves and except for the rare instance, perpetrators of the worst manifestation of human nature. The deluge of fear, rancor, bigotry, misogyny and blatant stupidity, with little, if any, balance has left the miniscule, active electorate lining up against the things they hate the most rather than those bygone hopes and dreams of a better life and brighter future.

So caucus away, Iowa. Keep Monsanto’s silos overflowing, (as long as you don’t reuse the seed). Be proud that late Monday, hundreds of millions of dollars will have been spent to lead you to a totally meaningless decision that will make your lives, our country and planet Earth no better and no safer.
