When money means everything, everything means nothing. When the pursuit of wealth and its resultant bi-product, poverty, is the standard to which success is measured, our humanity becomes bankrupt. In this wondrous age of science and technology where we are all interconnected, it is an existential conundrum that we remain unwilling to embrace the essence of the common necessities of sustenance, nurturing and fulfillment, choosing instead to see and suspect the menial differences in our appearance and nature, holding tight to millennia-old bias, distrust and abject hatred. The isolationist absurdity of nationalism, the minute-by-minute manipulation of currency, the salacious glee in amassing uncountable wealth and the ridiculous fascination in reporting the real-time rise and fall of its perceived value are all distractions and obstructions to the progress of any worthwhile endeavor. Even Camus would have thought our behavior too absurd…and you can take that to the bank.
