(An open letter to Trump supporters)

To Whom It May Concern:

Your choice to remain loyal to one of the most heinous human beings in history is fodder for the psychological annals of other historical cultish figures like Charles Manson, Jim Jones and David Koresh.  If you haven’t checked, ask around.  The obedient followers of those narcissistic lunatics all came to horrible ends.  Although I profess no psychic ability, I can assure you that your fealty to the soulless, present occupier of the Oval Office will bring you less, (way less), of the promises, opportunities and services you thought you voted for.  I know it’s hard to turn away from an esteemed leader whose shit, (and I get that you believe this), doesn’t stink.  But, while you’re ignoring your olfactory sense, compare your devotion to the North Koreans’ who believe that Kim Jong-un doesn’t even have to shit.  Take a moment to self-reflect before you let that notion blow through the empty caverns of your mind.  On your break, (you must take five every now and then), consider the fact that the shepherd you have flocked around is an uneducated, (not, by itself, a necessarily bad thing), scam artist whose enterprises, (while making him wealthy…to some very questionable degree), have been categorical failures.  He is incapable of telling the truth.  As President, he has used his executive power to alter policy and procedure without any grasp of the content or consequence of his actions.  He’s a sexual predator…and you evangelicals are good with his braggadocio regarding his inappropriate, (very possibly illegal), behavior…really?  What he considers as strength and leadership is deemed buffoonery by the rest of the world.  His uncontrolled bluster is unhinged and dangerous.  This is not a game show where the gravest consequence is humiliation.  This loony toon has his tiny, twitchy finger on the end-of-days button.  And, if none of this gives you pause, how about the fact that he hates you?  Well, except when you all get together and adore him.  But, open your eyes!  He’s not one of you and he’s not anything like you.  He doesn’t care about your life or your job or who you choose to worship.  He despises everything about your unprivileged little lives.

A special note to the posse of surrogates that are charged with the task of defending and explaining the inexplicable and indefensible.

You all realize that unless this ends in the worse-case scenario, (use your own imagination), you will, at some point, have to return to a saner, post-Trumpian existence, and Fox News is already full up?  I’m pretty cynical, but I haven’t yet lost all hope.  So, I won’t allow myself the glass-mostly-empty belief that you are the evil, lying, demonic minions of Satan, carrying out your mission to drag us all to hell, (even though I truly have not been able to find another explanation).  I know that most of you profess some religious affiliation and, luckily, there are many paths to atonement.  It’s time to cut your losses, eat some wafers and return from the dark side.  But do me a favor, please leave Kellyanne and Roy Moore where they are, the kids don’t need to be exposed to anything that horrible.
