I have cyclothymic triggers that set me off, and I have spent most of the last decade trying to identify them and keep them in check. When I find myself on the wrong side of that scuffle, I am prone to hyperbole and the over-simplification of theses, (though clearly and correctly presented by the standards of my own personal vetting), which, at the very least can be polarizing. So, what is a boy with a god complex to do amidst the chaos of so much asinine, triggering rhetoric? Release the over-simplified Kraken…that’s what.
We have become unwilling characters in a farcical, ill-written psycho-drama masquerading as Life in America. It’s becoming increasingly more difficult to find purchase in anything hopeful or positive amidst the rapid atrophy of the promises of freedom and equality that were our genesis. The growing divisiveness in social behavior and action, the widening of the economic chasm and the disturbing disregard of science and fact would be harbingers of some biblical end-of-days shit if the language was flowerier and more obscure. Yet, in the direst of times, there is no sane, sincere debate on the existential issues before us. We are otherwise distracted by the baboon antics of a moronic, uniformed President, the over-reaching influence of conscienceless corporate corruption, (and rampant, unnecessary alliteration), unconstitutional parochial interference and, at the very heart, an elected Congress, the majority of whose members have abandoned the concepts of decency, fairness, compassion, kindness and intelligence for party line victories or obstructions. The furious posturing, (if one can filter out the furor from the psych ward giggling), over the core issues of children’s and veteran’s health, legalizing Dreamers and reexamining immigration policy, (aka building a Trump Wall that can be seen from outer space), should not have brought the government to a screeching halt. And, by the way, other than the paycheck part and some uncollected trash, how much more can the government be shut down from the way it’s been operating for the last several years? This shameful gamesmanship is not lost on the electorate, but the partisan spin, directing and redirecting the blame, purposefully blurring the content of policy and using false patriotic buzz words keeps even the best informed of us unable to understand the intent of any action.
I’m not very hopeful that there’s an ‘aha’ moment on the horizon that will be accompanied by a cacophonous group-slap of foreheads, after which there will be a lot of throat-clearing before the fog of incompetence dissipates. The investigations into the Trump campaign, the dastardly gang of misfits orbiting the President and the White House, the Trumpettes and the admittedly felonious man himself, may eventually lead to a moment of smug satisfaction, but, I fear, without alien intervention, we may have broken the country beyond repair. Oh, and the Kraken, being a single-minded destructive force, will not be offering any sage advice.
