Like most of my friends and family, I have been harboring the rapidly vanishing, hopeful notion that the last or the next or certainly the revelation after that of some misconduct or preposterous turn of phrase or random and dire Executive action, would be the final straw whose cumulative weight finally crushes the life out of the unapologetic criminal in the White House. UNCLE! He’s just too good.
The only thing crazier than my daily dip into the batshit world of printed and broadcast news reportage, is the content, most of which, in a sane world, would have never it made it past the desk of even the least diligent City Editor but a mere eighteen months or so ago. The news has always provided unequal measures of comfort and irritation, the bad significantly outweighing the good, but historically, (I’ll have to check to see if there were even choices of Town Criers), there have always been options of style and point of view that allowed us to seek our individually most-trusted delivery. No more. The twenty-four-seven news cycle is, first and foremost, a lost leader item within a deluge of an advertising monsoon. An average half hour of CNN, MSNBC, FOX News, ABC, CBS or NBC includes fourteen minutes of boner pills, heart attack pills, insurance, insurance, insurance, psoriasis cream, paid political propaganda, automobile sales and insurance and promos for other shows with equal ratios of content to advertising. The in-between talking head segments, all of which are now “BREAKING NEWS!”, would mostly fit comfortably in the Jerry Springeror Gong Showformat…”You’re a liar!”…“No, you’re a liar!”…”Am not!”…”Are too!”…and the reporting, (when did all information become editorial?), is shamelessly biased. Even as I madly shout at my TV or computer screen or randomly into thin air, I maintain that I have a clear-headed perception of our Cronkite-less dilemma orbiting the antics of our Disrupter-in-Chief, whom, I have not one shred of doubt, has been nurtured and manipulated into an obedient Pavlovian/Putin puppet to spread suspicion and hate and unbridled chaos. This started long before his run for President; boldly, openly and now Tweetily honed to perfection. Did I say, UNCLE!?
