Given the choice between ‘better’ or ‘worse’, most of us would pick ‘better’, right? I mean, that’s human nature 101 for crap sakes. So, somebody help me out here, (that plea is foolishly directed toward someone who would more than likely not be reading this…but, what the hell). Other than some perverse financial windfall, or a sinister, deep, dark conspiracy, I cannot, for the life of me, find an alternative motive or benefit to the depraved cluster-fuck masquerading as the Executive Branch of our government. From day one, beginning with the selection of the clown-heavy circus of history’s swampiest Cabinet, to court appointees aimed at reversing a century’s progress in human and more specifically, women’s and gay rights, to the alienation of our strongest and most reliable allies, to freeing up precious protected lands to irreversible drilling and mining devastation, to the wholesale deregulation of abusive practices by conscience-free financial institutions and manufacturers, to the shameless, pathological lying and profane nature of the President, the growing numbers of unwavering acolytes have giddily chosen ‘worse’.
If I had to guess, with history as my Rosetta Stone, I’d opine that the unifying rallying call would have to be the fear of alien invasion; not the H. G. Wells Martian variety, (Trump’s new Space Force will keep that in check), rather the endless wave of Mexicans and Nicaraguans pouring across our southern border or the boatloads of displaced Muslims beaching their crafts on our shores to claw their way through the sand to steal our American Dream. I mean, that’s what all of us lefties live for, right…open and free borders, so all of them wetbacks and towelheads can take all of our good-paying jobs that will be coming back…any day now.
Or…trying to find a Phoenix-like rebirth from the ashes created by the forty-year failure of Soviet Communism, the brilliant, albeit evil, spymaster genius, V. Putin, has spent the last thirty years honing his craft of misinformation to roil the fears and uninformed prejudices of the cellphone-addicted, shit upon 99% and created a King of Chaos for them to blindly follow. Without a doubt, the messaging is effective and veracity seems to have no place in the equation, leaving me woefully perplexed as regards my original thesis of a choice: blue collar workers are choosing ‘worse’, miners…’worse’, evangelicals…sinfully ‘worse’, and Republicans, (broad stroke generalization), who statistically may be parents and grandparents and brothers and sisters and marginally caring humans…fucking ‘worse’!
