It’s usually dangerous fleshing out big-picture problems in your head. However informed one may be, successfully tackling issues, that are not purely mathematical in nature, requires intellectual interaction and dialogue. A cursory, historic journey through the last twenty-five hundred years contains the data for the clinical trial of this supposition. From the Socratic fora to the classrooms, labs, think-tanks and formal and casual chit-chats between inquisitive acquaintances, the inventions, break-throughs and policies, beneficial and otherwise, that have resulted, have the deepest, most substantial roots. From the prehistoric Committee to Create the Wheelto the frenetic Manhattan Projectparticipants’ pre-apocalyptic lethal weapon, shared synaptic activity was the key to success.
So, does anybody see a problem with a silver-spoon-idiot-child whose singular asset is gaining personal wealth and stature by cheating, lying and scamming anyone within the pull of his blubbery vortex and who really, truly believes that only his big brain knows the answers to…well, everything? I can understand wanting to be an acolyte of the Big Brain. It certainly takes a lot of pressure off of needing to think anything through on one’s own. The world has seen its share of conquerors and despots who attempted, mostly through bloodshed and assorted diabolically heinous behavior, to impose their particular Big Brains on whatever expanse of humanity they could muster. None were benevolent and few left behind anything beneficial to the betterment of mankind. The difference this time is, that unlike the snail-like movement of communication that left the populous clueless for weeks and months and years in times past, our shit show is playing out in real time tweets and texts, emails and taped conversations, pronouncements and a non-stop blustery video feed. The narcissistic psychology is completely understandable. All of history’s BBs loved the cheering, albeit forcibly adoring crowds. They built palaces and monuments to themselves and had fanfares written for their entrances and songs and odes composed to extol their greatness. As Mel Brooks, (who, I’ve heard, is more than 2,000 years old), has opined, “It’s good to be the king.” (BB king…I may have inadvertently stumbled onto something important…I’ll get back to you on that). There were always unfulfilled promises of better days ahead or torture, imprisonment, beheading or worse for noncompliance. Trump’s brain publicly changes direction faster than a mechanical bear in a 70’s era shooting gallery and none of those maneuvers is predicated on the safety or welfare of anyone but himself. He is blatant and obvious, unapologetic and snidely and if this were a pick-up baseball game on a neighborhood sand lot, he would go unchosen.
Seriously, anyone who thinks he’s your guy, it’s time to reconsider…he isn’t.
