It’s “Them”, right? All this crap is their fault. If it wasn’t for those people screwing up the economy and the weather and the traffic, closing down all of the friendly and familiar K-Marts and Sears stores, rearranging the aisles at the supermarket, (really, what’s up with that?), taking away Twinkies®, Zagnut® and Oldsmobile and stinking up public transportation and restrooms as a result of that creepy, smelly food they eat, we could get back to the good old days when we hardly ever had to see any of them except in the movies, (on the screen, not in a seat), or in one of those hilarious shows they’d put on. Thankfully, they’ve become easier to identify, unlike when we only had their accents to pick them out. These days, they’re black and brown and yellowish, wear goofy, barely pronounceable garments and headgear and they’ve got that look and that attitude. They’re out to get us and we’ve got to shut that mother down!
Or…and I know I’m going way out on a potentially bough-breaking limb here…the key phrase in the otherwise non-inclusive sales pitch of our Declaration of Independence, that “all men are created equal”, must be repurposed before the divisiveness of our differences leads to our extinction. The horrors of history were all perpetrated and celebrated in the name of demonizing ethnicity or religion or eye shape or skin color or Trumped up, (capital ‘T’ intended), innocuous otherness. Our future, if we choose to have one, will only result from reversing our present course and embracing the very simple notion that there is no US and THEM, there’s only US. Oh…and making sure, absolutely, positively sure, that Donald Trump is relegated to the annals of American history as a one-term boil on the ass of our fledgling democratic experiment.
