No!

United States Senators and Congressmen receive an annual salary of $174,000.00.  The leaders get a bump to $193,000.00.  It’s a job.  There’s an on-going peer review, snarkily played out in TV sound bites and tweets, usually with little impact.  There’s a performance review, aka election, every two years for Congressmen and in staggered six-year periods for Senators and that is rarely based on merit or excellence of service.  The job description of both Houses is fundamentally uncomplicated; protect the Constitution and the general and specific principles of our Democracy, amend what needs contemporizing, enact laws to make us, (all of us), better, safer and more prosperous and act as a co-equal triumvirate arm of government, with oversight of the Executive Branch to curb any tendencies toward despotic overreach.  At best, seekers of such high, public office are true servants of the people and without question, throughout our history, many have risen to that lofty status.  Being a complicated mish mash of global immigrants, superimposed upon a vanquished and oppressed indigenous population, our specific moral compasses may skew wildly from an agreed upon true north, but our generally united trend has been incrementally leaning toward the Freedom and Justice for All that we love to wave around.  How we make that work and by what processes, has divided us nearly in two; those who think government should do as little as possible, (except, of course, for providing water, power, roads, communications, social security, Medicare and Medicaid), and those that think that an unregulated society will simply behave badly, (54 combined indictments and resignations during the four Trump years, for example).  That simplistic view of party politics has led to this moment where our system has, at best stalled, but may be hopelessly broken.  The Republicans, side A, have thumbed their noses at the responsibilities of their job.  They neither propose nor endorse any legislation, choosing to either dismantle hard-fought, socially responsible advancements of the past or obstructing everything brought to the floor by their Democratic counterparts.  They were complicit in the near collapse of our Democracy by waiving their oversight and allowing a tyrannical nincompoop free reign and they are now, state by Republican controlled state, enacting laws to restrict voting to only those that would elect them, literally and openly shitting on the basic foundation of our government.  Today, as Side B attempts to flex its legislative muscle, the shirts defense is to just say, “No!”.  And, because the Robert’s Rules of the Senate are as challenging as the London Times Cryptic Crossword, the Democrats are finding it impossible to engage any Republican to join them in finding solutions to the multitude of dire circumstances facing us if we are to even imagine a brighter future.  It seems that the only choice is changing the arcane rules and moving forward as if the obstructors didn’t exist.  It’s not that they are giving voice to the desire and will of their constituents.  No!  A vast majority of the country is in favor of meaningful progress being proposed by the good guys.  So, it’s up to us to be loud and clear that, NO, we won’t put up with Chinless Mitch and Jungle Boy Ted and Fuckface Lindsey anymore!  NO more filibuster…do you hear that, Joe Manchin you self-righteous prick?!  NO more voter suppression!  NO more racial and gender inequality!  NO!  NO!  NO!
