Although the warmongering response to what may be the first political use of the term, Domino Effect, was a knee-jerk reaction by unimaginative schoolyard bullies, the real concern, that some dastardly player was/is plotting the systematic toppling of democracy, was/is not some paranoid nightmare.  However, the tiles that are already, one by one, taking each other out, are not metaphors for hard-to-pronounce African or Southeast Asian countries that most would find challenging to locate on the map, but the ideals, principals and Constitutional promises that were the essence of American exceptionalism.  I have postulated that the topplers are most assuredly foreign actors determined to undermine US world dominance.  History, (if there is a future from which one can be observed), will certainly take issue with how that power was wielded and why we pissed off so many bad actors.  That our undoing would come from within, by a years-long stoking of racial fear, ethnic mistrust, and religious poppycock, is a surprise, because we seemed to be baby-stepping our way to that more perfect union.  I mean, Obama…more than a baby step, right?  In fact, Obama was the tipping point that led to, “now-you’ve-gone-too-far-and-we-real-‘mercans-aren’t-taking-this-anymore”, that MAGAed Trump to the presidency as the dominoes started falling, faster and faster.  What seemed a course correction after four batshit crazy years was merely a refueling stop while the toppling gained momentum…THE BIG LIE, January 6, school boards, city councils, state legislatures, judges, the Supreme Court, the mother fucking Senate…and soon the last double six will bite the dust.
