Before I climb onto my high horse and get all snidely about what most Republicans had to say about the SOTU, let me say that this year’s Presidential locker room pep talk will probably not, in and of itself, inspire a high-scoring effort by the unspecific team to which it was being addressed. It certainly had its gaggle of bipartisan applause moments…gotta love that vibrant stock market, greater energy independence, struggling single moms and wounded war heroes, right? Let’s hear it for better health care, higher wages and courageous athletes facing terrorist threats to bring home THE GOLD…USA…USA…USA!!!
Cut to Cathy McMorris Rodgers, looking all mommy-like and regular, touting her McDonald’s-to-Congress success story, tsking Obama’s failed and failing policies while declaring that she was going to share with us a better path that she and her Liberty-lovin’ caucus had charted out for America. It’s possible that I may have dozed off for a moment just then, (I’ve been known to do that from time to time), but I did rewind my DVR and I did not, in fact, miss a thing. So, I’m going with a teleprompter malfunction, since Ms. Rodgers failed to deliver one shred of an idea or the slightest hint of any program or proposed legislation, better or otherwise…and, there were no charts and I do love me some colorful charts. Perhaps no one shared with her the extensive health care alternative revealed by Senators Burr, Coburn and Hatch just one day prior to her rebuttal. At least that’s an actual, multi-page document, (perhaps more like a collection of cave paintings), but there are some things in it that might be considered in trying to improve the ACA…really. Instead, Cathy nervously licked her too shiny lips and told us that God was on our side and with his, (seriously…”his”?), blessing we will all see a better future…and then she “God bless(ed) you and me and…”, the one thing that all politicians seem to have in common, “…the United States of America.”
Personally, Marco Rubio’s flop-sweat water guzzling was much more entertaining.
