President Obama, (who, let’s face it, can do no right), has been called out by supporters and foes alike for his seemingly casual comment, “We tortured some folks.” In reviewing the comedic, editorially disappointed and fire and brimstone responses, it would seem that the universally agreed upon and unforgivable word in his statement was “folks”. Too cavalier, too awe-shucksish, too, well, too much like someone embarrassed by his culpability and truly at a loss for explaining away some bad behavior. What has gotten lost amidst this latest game of Whack-a-Barak, is that since 911, when CIA persuasive interrogation techniques became less than secretive, going Jack Bauer on a detainee, (cheered on by our former waterboard-loving Vice President), has surpassed merely whispered tolerance to a level of shameless acceptability. Calling out the first President, man enough to admit such un-American behavior is simply disingenuous.
