When did the dumbest among us, (I love that pseudo-rhyme and will be using it again soon), get the loudest voice and headline press? Why would anybody give a shit what Donald Trump or any one of a gaggle of countless, mispronouncing, factually-challenged morons has to say? I know why. For one thing, it’s entertaining, albeit in a perverse, cartoonish, Marshall McLuhan kind of way. And two, listening to idiots pontificate on subjects dire or mundane gives almost anybody someone to feel superior to, (many of you may be having such feelings at this very moment). Tragically, what today’s infinitely open forum has created is a cacophonous deluge of blabbering bullshit which makes it difficult, if not virtually impossible, to filter out the true voices of reason. Every subject is pounced on, (often before it’s even clear what the subject is), by experts, (real and Dr. Phil-like), polled for public opinion and shamelessly editorialized until the rhetoric far exceeds the issue.
The newest poster boy for domestic violence, Ray Rice, may have blown his lucrative NFL career because he didn’t obey what every kid knows is rule #1…NO hitting! But, true to form, the issue of spousal abuse has been hi-jacked by when or if certain NFL execs saw the long or short video, the length of the initial suspension, whether professionals in violent sports should be allowed a pass for being violent and if the bitch had it coming, (not me…it’s my homage to Joan Rivers).
The forever war that we have signed on to is being parsed non-stop by means of every known form of communication. The latest round, stirred to a frenetic shit storm by the heinous actions of this week’s most villainous, ISIS, has given rise to verbose displays of ignorance from politicians, pundits, retired, (and lonely), generals, clergy and your run-of-the-mill dentally-challenged man on the street, proposing solutions as far-ranging as, “nuke the bastards!” to complex strategies of aiding Shiites or Sunnis, (hopefully somebody’s actually checked to see which are the ‘good’ ones), and creating a coalition to “degrade and destroy”…somebody.
One can only hope that the plot to “Dumb and Dumber To” makes more sense.
