A Step to the Right

Although a fun maneuver during the audience participation of Let’s Do the Time Warp, Again, Tuesday night’s tally of a shameful 35% of eligible American voters, gives a Congressional, bicameral majority the mandate to move further in that direction to the continued detriment, decay and eventual demise of our once potentially great nation.

Too harsh?  Well, not if you hold us up to the unflappable repetition of history.  Nations greater than ours, in holding sway over the known populations of their time, stumbled, teetered and fell when the obsession with self satisfaction overpowered the passion for innovation, knowledge and the promise of fairness and purpose for all.

I don’t believe that party affiliation really matters any more. Government has become mere politics and politicians merely candidates, perpetually preparing for the next election cycle in lieu of actually governing.  The once bold ideas behind our Constitutional attempt at democracy under a capitalistic umbrella have given way to the sheer greed and economic inequality of irresponsible corporations turning us into the worst kind of feudal society, wherein the masses are manipulated by their fears and prejudices, (more fears), to willingly choose a path contrary to their best interest.

It’s outrageous that one side, (let’s call them the former losers), of our woefully divided country, proudly stated its obstructionist posture as its fundamental purpose within days of the historic election of our first half-black president in 2008.  Now, six years later, and having over-achieved in their endeavor, producing the least productive Congress in our history, we have given these idealess saps a majority of both houses so they can legislate their love for planet-killing fossil fuel, economic and gender inequality, over-zealous military intervention, blatant voting rights manipulation, disdain for immigrants, disinterest in our crumbling infrastructure and lack of concern for our failing public education.  And, because you just can’t make this shit up, the chinless wonder who made that declaration, lo those six years ago, is now the guy in charge.

And…our future is going to be mapped out in Washington, DC, where any day now, everyone’s going to be legally stoned.  Good grief!
