Cuba has not been a threat to the United States since…well, ever. When Kennedy, (perhaps the last time a sitting President used his cajones for something other than…you know), backed down the Russian attempt to set up missile sites ninety miles off our coast, the Cuban threat level dropped to slobbering fat-cat anxiety over being caught with contraband cigars. The hue and cry over human rights violations, (certainly not unfounded), is disingenuous as isolationism, antagonism and an emotionally misguided refusal to open a diplomatic dialogue has worsened the treatments and conditions of those still fighting for a more open and democratic government. We have squandered fifty years of potential cultural and economic cooperation. Ya basta!
