I was going to go off on the discourteous and disrespectful behavior of the right side of the aisle at last week’s State of the Union Address. Sure, I get their irritation. I mean, how dare the President propose such a preposterous agenda as equal pay for women, or fixing our crumbling infrastructure, or educating everyone, dealing with climate change, immigration or doing anything else that smacks of being fair and just? No way we’re clapping for any of that Kenyan Commie shit…right, boys?
But then Deflationgate overtook the ratings of the Yemeni coup, the ISIS beheading of a Japanese national and the death of the King of Saudi Arabia as the lead story of the week. I know almost nothing about what they’re talking about. I’m neither a football fan or commentator, nor do I play one on TV. I have gleaned this, however. Each team supplies a certain number of footballs for each game, (that’s just a stupid rule, like the NFL can’t afford to supply game balls), and those balls are all supposed to be virtually identical, by a single manufacturer and inflated to a designated acceptable psi range. The set-up and delivery of these balls to the referee is the responsibility of each team’s equipment manager and, apparently, it is common practice for quarterbacks to dictate their preference for the high or low end of the pressure variance. In last week’s Baltimore v New England game, the Patriots balls were underinflated, making them supposedly easier to grip in the wet weather conditions. Tom Brady…you cheater! I am apoplectic over this revelation. The underpinnings of my ability to trust…well, anything if such dishonesty can exist in professional sports, may have been irrevocably damaged. I will be boycotting the Super Bowl Game.
Would someone please let me know who those dastardly Patriots will be playing and when the event is scheduled so I can properly organize my protest?
