Whether the one thousand-mile by thirty-foot structure being proposed by the intellectually challenged or some metaphorical equivalent, the intent of such a barrier is…let me find just the right word…stupid.

Yes, people are sneaking across our Southern border, and, although I have no specific data, I would bet that there are some disgruntled Canadians who have illegally tip-toed onto US soil as well.  I’ve seen a world map, (although probably not fully updated to the exact status of the –stans or the re-naming of Ceylon and others), and I understand, as a concept, that the globe has been divided into sovereign nations with their own rules, languages, currency?, and, for the best of them, yummy ethnic cuisine.  I also read somewhere, (definitely not in school where this stuff didn’t seem to be very important), that there are any number of treaties and agreements that varying combinations of these nations enter into for military, economic and other mutually beneficial purposes.  In the meantime, throughout history, a laundry list of existential or trivial hissy fits have motivated invasions, skirmishes and out-and-out hot and cold war between individual and allied groups intent on imposing their will or ideology, wrestling away territory and/or resources or simply playing the ancient game of My Dick Is Bigger Than Yours.  Millions have died; millions more have been physically and emotionally damaged; and even more millions have been occupied, exiled or otherwise oppressed beyond any humane reading of the moral compass.

And the walls, those fashioned from bricks and mortar and barbed wire as well as those equally impenetrable ramparts of radical idealism, have no place in a globally-connected society that relies on the cooperation of every one of us to assure our survival.  Unfortunately the loudest rhetoric on bully pulpits around the world, and indeed from our presidential candidates, (can you believe there’s more than a year of this crap to go?), is, sadly, a barrage of pontifical sermonizing pandering pointlessly to fear and prejudice.

The only downside I can find to not building the Mexican wall…missing out on 2,000 miles of potentially cool graffiti.
