Unless there’s an unexpected upheaval in the electoral balderdash pretending to serve as the model for democracy, we will be given the choice of Hilary or Donald in the November election. If Hilary, (as the best guessers are guessing), is the choice, (by those able to actually exercise their voting rights), and the Congress remains in the control of the cluster-fuck of the Republican party, we can expect another four years of stagnation with regard to any issue of import. If, (because the Primary electorate has revealed an hysterical tendency to embrace a potpourri of bigoted, misogynistic, fact-free bullshit), Herr Donald is victorious, I can’t imagine, (and I have a very fertile imagination), the buffoonery that will ensue. I feel nothing akin to the excitement of either of Obama’s elections. Hilary, although her gender, scratching its way to the Presidency after a mere 96 years of having the vote, has some emotional currency, does not inspire confidence or hopefulness. She’s been so immersed in the machinery of politics for so long, that she refuses to envision the progressive agenda, (even when Bernie waves it in her face), necessary for us to thrive, or even survive the challenges all around us; climate change, crumbling infrastructure, shamefully lacking public education, unconscionably unaffordable health care, unfair taxation and a woefully imbalanced economy. On the Trump hand, with the lunatic running the asylum, we get that Mexican wall built, spend a lot more on the military so we can kill all the terrorists, their families and…oh fuck…all them damn Muslims, kick some international trade butt and really, really love the poorly educated.
The real craziness of this choice is that millions of American voters could read, (or have read to them), the previous sentence and respond, “You betcha!”
If you’re lucky enough to still have one, call you Mom!
