Hope you’re all well.  This social distancing, (for those of us not in some dumb-fuck place like South Dakota or Florida), has been an odd mix of fear, anxiety, patriotism and, first and foremost, a rare, unifying example of civic responsibility.  If only we had leaders who gave a shit, or knew anything, or…did I say gave a shit?  Instead, we are tacitly relying on the heroics of first responders and emergency medical personnel, shamefully sending them into battle, lacking the equipment vital to their safety and success.  Who could possibly have imagined this?  One can only hope that the 7pm accolades will be remembered and rewarded going forward with the respect and remuneration that has been sadly lacking for far too long.  And to the utility team, the grocery workers, maintenance people, delivery men and women, the postal service and others, putting their lives at risk, often for a pitifully mandated minimum wage, we see you and apologize for taking you for granted.  To my family and friends, my neighbors, countrymen and the nearly 8 billion global members of my species who are universally sharing a singular, common existential threat, please take a minute in your otherwise jam-packed, quarantined day to reflect on how we have allowed our fragile lives to be governed by the utter bullshit of enterprise and nationalism and religion, all of which threaten most and benefit few.  If we survive this, maybe we should consider doing better.  It should be abundantly clear by now, which of our leaders are standing up to protect us and those who were, are and will continue to be self-serving, uncaring charlatans.  Let’s use this unwanted, yet timely reset to purge these soulless assholes and release their stranglehold on the goodness and fulfilling promise of the fading American Dream.
