Our views on the subject of Donald Trump are so diametrically opposed that I have no illusion that anything that I write here can sway your steadfast loyalty to him. Yet, this moment in time is so much more than a popularity contest pitting one imperfect human against another. We are about to make a dire decision about continuing the destructive path the President is herding us down, (he certainly isn’t leading), or opening our eyes to the reality that, despite what Trump or his cheerleaders tell you, he has not made anything great…ever. He cares nothing for you unless your goal in life is self-indulgence and utter distain for anyone or anything that might get between you and what makes you feel good. If that’s your thing, you have found a guru at whose feet you can grovel. Just be prepared to be shunned if you ever stop your groveling. If you are a soldier, an hourly worker, a gig worker, a small business owner, unemployed, under employed, physically, socially or emotionally challenged in any way, he only wants your adoration, but he thinks you are stupid losers and suckers. He’ll wave any flag, make any promise, take any stand and denigrate any opponent to incite a crowd with pathological misdirection and unapologetic lying. He spends hours, paid for by your tax dollars, every day, being painted Oompa Loompa orange and constructing his ridiculous comb-over, the rainfall fragility of which has been reliably reported to be his reason for passing on a trip of respect to a US military graveyard in France.
As I said, I don’t expect you to take my words as gospel, but before you dismiss them as fake news or hate of an easily hated man, take a breath, tune out the flood of counter-factual rhetoric and ponder…how is your life going? What does your future look like? Do you feel safe in the helter/skelter crazy of Trumpist America? And, if you can get there, maybe you’ll notice that the deficit, the cornerstone of Republican politics, has ballooned to the most obscene number imaginable under a single Trump term. And, if you can get there, maybe you’ll notice that those liberals and progressives that you demonize, have proposed such wild and crazy ideas as fair wages for all, affordable health care for all, the best, equitable education for all, respect and human dignity for all and a government that serves everyone. Trump wants to make America great again…again. Nutty, right?
