47%

Abe Lincoln was not completely accurate, if, in fact, his ‘fooling the people’ quote is even something that he said at all.  If he did, I guess I can give him a pass based on the limited flow of information in the mid nineteenth century.  Perhaps he was using a skewed sample of 1860’s wokeness or perhaps he just had a rosier expectation of the goodness of human nature.  In our data-abundant, more tracible time, it would appear that nearly half of us, (47% if your picking nits), actually can be fooled all of the time.  I know some of them.  I see many others, flaunting their MAGA paraphernalia all around.  I listen to them being questioned on TV, saying things like, “I don’t agree with his tweeting or his tactics, his crassness or his lies but I fully support his policies.”  And there it is in a nutshell, that ‘all of the time’ foolishness.  He has no policies…none, nada, niente…never did, unless only giving a shit about himself is considered policy.  Oh, by the way you foolable 47%ers, he lost…loser, loser, loser.  And another foolhardy misconception, he’s not on your side…he hates you.  OK, he really likes when you kiss his ass, (as long as you don’t use too much tongue), but he’s not your guy…never was.  Here’s another one…Covid’s real.  It’s already killed a quarter of a million Americans and I’m just making an educated guess that 47% of them were some of your ‘all of the time’ fools, family members and other acquaintances.  So, here’s the deal, (as President elect Joseph Biden likes to say), if we’re going to move forward as a productive nation, you need to recalibrate your bullshit meter: Trump = Bullshit, Qanon = Bullshit, McConnell, Giuliani, Graham, Fox News = Bull-fuckin-shit!  Snap the fuck out of it!  47% is an unmanageable Confederacy of Dunces…way too many pointy hats.
