I’m not sure what I was expecting the beginning of the Biden administration to look and feel like.  Actually, that’s not completely true.  I thought that Biden and Harris and a bevy of smart and capable people surrounding them, would hit the ground running, as they have, taking a firm and science-based approach to face COVID head on, undo as many of the mean spirited, xenophobic, racist policies Sharpie-scribbled into existence by the lunatic former president, begin the remedial work necessary to reestablish relationships with our allies, take a stand against our adversaries, restore competency to our Departments of State, Justice and Education and mend four years of despicable treatment of the intelligence community and the battered and beleaguered fourth estate, recommit to climate science, speak the truth and generally exude undeniable competence.  Seems like I got that right.  The part that old rose-colored-glasses me did not expect, especially after the televised insurrection that led to Impeachment No. Deux, was the shameless continuation of hypnotic, bigoted ass-kissing by a majority of Republicans.  I mean, even those nasty flying monkeys in The Wizard of Oz did a happy dance when Dorothy melted the Wicked Witch.  But the not Democrats, (calling them Republicans seems stupid when nothing they stand for is remotely in line with historical party principle), lately of the Tea Party variety and now of the blatantly white supremacist, Christian, racist, batshit crazy Qanon ilk, are profanely trampling on the foundations of our democracy.  The intractability has broken both houses of Congress beyond repair, leaving no hint of civil debate on the dire issues facing our country.  One side wants to do good work, the other wants them dead, literally.  By the slimmest majority, the adults in the room have the temporary Constitutional power to legislate and they must do so as if the future of the world were at stake.  Filibuster…gone!  Do every morally right thing and do it now!  Only positive action will countermand the fantasy demonization that has enamored the racist mob.  Surely, the most radicalized will opt for an armed civil uprising…it won’t be pretty…others will eventually begin to notice the personal perks of competent governance.  But this is the last stand before these more-organized-than-anyone-could-possibly-imagine terrorists tear it all down in the name of their ‘freedom’.  I am scared shitless and I can only hope, (and rant), that those forementioned adults have the bigger stick.
