In real life, Lassie, Rin Tin Tin and the cavalry, (calvary…oh, please), don’t always show up in the nick of time to save the day. I searched around a bit and couldn’t find any data, (if anyone has even thought to do the research), comparing the good/bad outcomes of people in need of rescue and when or if help arrived. I would imagine that fire departments have pretty good numbers, maybe less so for cops and I don’t think military efficiency would be put on any pedestal. Government, surely contemporary government, is an outright shitshow of convoluted, unnavigable procedure and policy that too often disdains, frustrates and ignores those it’s supposed to serve. Even those, most foundationally well-intentioned, falter in the stark light of reality. You might think, (well, if you were me you might), that narcissism and incendiary bias and distrust would ebb if our basic welfare was more secure, if hunger and homelessness and health care and public safety were not questions. What could we accomplish if we never let survival and disenfranchisement weigh so heavy on so many that a sham savior could rise to power? Great things, I think. Something much more like peace and prosperity. Or, we could continue to be a country of pretend promise, that has apportioned the marbles and the power to the very few and divided the rest into two crumb-scrounging tribes, one based in blurry reality and the other in ever-morphing batshit crazy conspiracy gobbledygook.
I’m not sure where I’m going with this. I guess, like so many non-insurrectionists, I just want to be able to hug my family and friends, a stranger or two and drive my electric car over to the Dairy Haus for an ice cream without the fear that some crazed Trump lover will stab me in the heart because he/she thought I was taking cuts…or, simply, because Q said so. You know, like in real life.
